Revyze, a French edtech startup, has found success by tapping into students’ desire for short-form, on-the-go learning. Within just two years, the company’s “TikTok for education” app has amassed over one million users and hit #1 on the App Store in its home country.
Revyze offers a stream of brief educational videos created by its growing community of 2,000 course creators. Students can dip in to review topics like math or history anywhere, matching the convenience of social platforms. The approach clearly resonated ahead of France’s national middle school exam, when one-third of all 9th graders turned to Revyze.
Now, after raising a $6 million seed round led by Speedinvest and Moonfire, Revyze is looking to expand its model internationally. However, simply targeting test prep wasn’t enough in the competitive U.S. market. The company refined its approach, drawing inspiration from both TikTok and Duolingo.
Revyze introduced “Capsules” – in-depth learning paths on specific topics created by top educators. Similar to Duolingo lessons, Capsules have a clear beginning, middle and end for a sense of achievement. Gamification features also incentivize regular use.
Crucially, Capsules ensure Revyze remains engaging throughout the year, not just before exams. Students can dip in whenever and still feel a sense of structured progress. The model even allows star course creators to monetize high-quality content.
Moving forward, Revyze will focus on growing its global user base and community of contributing teachers. With 150 million video views to date, the startup is poised to transform mobile learning by making education as accessible and bite-sized as social media itself.
