A revolutionary air conditioning filtration system, developed by researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, is making waves in the fight against indoor air pollution. This cutting-edge technology, capable of capturing pollutants ranging from PM 2.5 to PM 1, as well as allergens and pathogens, has been incorporated into a novel AC air purifier by a promising startup.
The startup, which specializes in air purification solutions, has successfully tested the new filtration technology named Filtrix. This system can be integrated into any existing air conditioner, offering a versatile solution for improving indoor air quality.
According to the company, the Filtrix technology has already been used to upgrade over 30,000 air conditioning units across India, providing cleaner air and promoting better health for users.
Recent tests conducted at a Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) certified laboratory have yielded impressive results. The filtration system demonstrated a 13% reduction in power consumption during continuous use compared to standard AC ratings. Additionally, after three months of usage, there was only a minimal 4% decrease in cooling capacity.
The tests also confirmed the technology’s compatibility and safety with various AC systems, ensuring no negative impact on overall performance. This dual benefit of improving air quality while enhancing AC efficiency and longevity sets the new filtration system apart from conventional solutions.
The startup’s CEO, an aerosol scientist from IIT Bombay, highlighted the significant impact of their technology. He stated that using one of their AC purifiers is equivalent to a family avoiding the inhalation of 1,500 cigarettes’ worth of pollutants. The system offers superior air purification efficiency at a fraction of the cost of expensive standalone air purifiers, making it an attractive option for consumers looking to improve their indoor air quality without breaking the bank.
As urban air pollution continues to be a pressing concern, innovations like this AC filtration system offer hope for cleaner, healthier indoor environments. With its ability to integrate seamlessly with existing AC units and its proven efficiency, this technology could play a crucial role in combating the negative health effects of poor air quality in homes and offices across the country.
