I couldn’t reach my phone. I couldn’t call for help. That feeling of isolation and helplessness stuck with me; it was more than terrifying. It was life-changing.
Even in a world full of smartphones, I realized we still didn’t have a simple, direct way to call for help in an emergency, especially when speaking or grabbing a phone isn’t possible.
That was my “aha” moment. I didn’t just want to recover, I wanted to solve the problem. I wanted to build something that could prevent others from experiencing that same fear and vulnerability.

- What were some of the biggest initial challenges you faced in getting your business off the ground? How did you overcome them?
One of the biggest early challenges we faced was getting buy-in from investors, businesses, and even consumers. It’s not always easy to convince people to invest in safety technology before a crisis happens. At the start, we were talking to decision-makers in healthcare, education, and other industries who didn’t necessarily see themselves or their teams as vulnerable. The value wasn’t always obvious. Sometimes it only became clear after an incident.

Adaptability is just as critical. Markets shift, customer needs change, and the plan that made sense on day one might no longer work by day one hundred. Founders need to be flexible enough to pivot while staying rooted in their mission. That clarity of purpose helps guide the “how” when the “what” starts to shift.

Once your idea withstands this scrutiny, become dedicated to developing a prototype or securing funding, to the point of losing sleep over it.
