A new artificial intelligence startup has emerged from stealth mode with a $20 million seed round, promising to tackle a longstanding challenge in data analytics. Isotopes AI, founded by former Scale AI CTO Arun Murthy, has developed an AI agent called Aidnn that allows business managers to interact with complex data systems using natural language.
The core issue Isotopes addresses is the disconnect between technical data experts and business users who need insights. Aidnn can respond to queries, create detailed plans, and pull information from various sources like finance applications, enterprise resource planning systems, customer relationship management tools, and cloud storage.
While AI-powered business analytics tools are becoming more common, Isotopes stands out due to its founders’ background. The company has already filed for 10 patents related to its technology.
Murthy’s experience in the big data field spans over two decades. He was part of the team at Yahoo that developed Hadoop, an open-source project that fueled the big data boom of the 2010s. He later co-founded Hortonworks, which went public before merging with rival Cloudera.
Despite his extensive experience, Murthy noticed that even at data-focused companies, executives often struggled to access necessary information quickly. This insight drove him to create Isotopes with co-founders Prasanth Jayachandran and Gopal Vijayaraghavan, both former Hortonworks colleagues.
Isotopes’ AI agent goes beyond simple data retrieval. It can clean and process data, maintain context for complex tasks, and provide detailed explanations of its reasoning. The system can handle multi-step processes, such as analyzing monthly recurring revenue trends, by extracting metadata, cleaning and normalizing data, and making revenue calculations.
The startup emphasizes that enterprise customers can use the system without sharing sensitive data with external AI model providers. However, Isotopes faces stiff competition in a market where established players like Salesforce’s Tableau and other AI-focused startups are also vying for attention.
Isotopes’ seed round was led by Vab Goel at NTTVC, setting the stage for the company to make its mark in the evolving landscape of AI-powered data analytics.
