In a revolutionary development for the music industry, a Chilean startup has created a pocket-sized pedal-amplifier that’s capturing the attention of world-renowned bands and musicians. DSM & Humboldt Electronics, founded in 2019, has successfully raised $300,000 to expand production and reach new markets with their innovative “Simplifier” device.
The Simplifier, a compact amplifier simulator, has become a game-changer for guitarists worldwide. It replaces bulky traditional amplifiers, solving logistical challenges for touring musicians. The device has gained popularity among famous bands like Foo Fighters and Los Bunkers, as well as artists in over 60 countries.
Manuel “Jano” Acevedo, CEO and co-founder of DSM & Humboldt Electronics, explained the inspiration behind their creation: “We wanted to simplify the amount of equipment musicians bring to concerts.” The Simplifier acts as a “brain” that connects various sound devices, replicating the experience of a real tube amplifier in a compact form.
Despite initial concerns about the pandemic’s impact on sales, the company experienced unexpected growth. “All the guitar players were at home looking for something like this,” Acevedo noted. The startup’s success attracted attention from major distributors worldwide, including those in the US, Europe, Japan, and China.
With a team of 10 people based in Huechuraba, Chile, DSM & Humboldt Electronics now produces 2,000 units per month. Their product line has expanded to include various Simplifier models, pedals, and a recently launched bass line.
The recent $300,000 investment from Dutch fund Bee Zee Group BV has provided the company with the resources to take their business to the “next level.” Acevedo and his team aim to generate $1.5 million in sales this year, prioritize relationships with top-tier artists, and enter new markets in Southeast Asia and Brazil.
As DSM & Humboldt Electronics continues to innovate and expand, their pocket amplifier is redefining the sound of modern guitar music, proving that big things can indeed come in small packages.
