A new Indian startup offering rapid home services has secured significant funding, even as similar companies face criticism over worker treatment. Pronto, which provides cleaning, laundry, and home services within 10 minutes, has raised $2 million in seed funding led by Bain Capital Ventures. The investment values the company at $12.5 million post-money.
Pronto’s funding comes at a time when the gig economy faces increased scrutiny. Just two months ago, competitor Urban Company faced backlash for launching a 15-minute cleaning service, with critics arguing it could lead to worker exploitation.
Operating in Gurugram, Pronto offers instant (10-minute), scheduled, and recurring services available 24/7. The company claims over 1,000 customers in the city.
Founder and CEO Anjali Sardana emphasizes Pronto’s commitment to worker welfare. “We sit at the same hubs where these workers are coming in and out every day. As soon as you start putting separation between yourself and the worker, you lose empathy for them,” she said.
Pronto says its workers can earn up to ₹26,000 (about $304) monthly, significantly higher than typical wages for domestic helpers in urban areas. The company also provides support for workers facing abuse or exploitation.
The startup operates two hubs in Gurugram, each serving a two-mile radius. It plans to open 10 new hubs in the city over the next three months and expand its worker network to 700.
Pronto pays workers per shift rather than using a commission model. The company also plans to introduce financial and insurance products for its workers.
As it grows, Pronto aims to offer more services beyond cleaning and laundry. Future expansion plans include entering markets like Mumbai and Bengaluru.
