Facing challenges, Bay Area technology company Humane has slashed the cost of their main product in hopes of sparking sales. The Ai Pin, Humane’s debut device aimed at blending artificial intelligence capabilities into a small wearable, will now set customers back $499 – a $200 reduction from the original $700 launch price earlier this year.
In an email to existing and prospective customers, Humane highlighted the lowered cost while also emphasizing their lenient return policy. Users have 90 days to try out the Ai Pin risk-free and receive full refunds if unsatisfied. This money-back guarantee could encourage more users to take a chance on the troubled start-up’s offering.
Reviews of the Ai Pin since its April debut have been less than favorable. Critiques pointed to lackluster performance and limited capabilities. Sales struggled to match the high expectations set by Humane’s founders, both former Apple executives. By summer, returns were surpassing new devices sold according to reports. This led Humane to explore putting the company up for sale, though no deal has been confirmed.
With a new, lower entry point and flexible return terms, Humane hopes to entice buyers and make the Ai Pin an attractive option. Only time will tell if this price reduction can help the company turn sales around or if further changes are still needed to get their innovating concept in front of consumers. For now, all eyes remain on Humane’s effort to rebound from a bumpy start in the competitive tech market.
