The thrilling drone light show that wowed nearly 100,000 spectators at the Cricket World Cup final was no accident – it was meticulously planned by an innovative IIT Delhi startup. Botlab Dynamics orchestrated a breathtaking display with over 1,200 synchronized drones dancing in unison above the Narendra Modi stadium.
Botlab, incubated at IIT Delhi, has made waves with their pioneering “drone swarm” technology. This allows multiple drones to communicate and coordinate their movements autonomously for spectacular choreographed performances. Pulling off such a large-scale show at the Cricket World Cup was a major achievement for the young startup, says Botlab co-founder Sarita Ahlawat.
Over 30 Botlab employees worked tirelessly for a month leading up to the final, with an intense week of rehearsals at the stadium. Their groundbreaking drone coordination software enabled the drones to smoothly execute mesmerizing patterns and designs high above the crowd.
While entertainment is currently their biggest revenue source, Botlab’s drone cooperation technology also has potential defense and disaster relief applications. Multiple drones working as a team could prove transformative for surveillance, logistics, and rapidly delivering critical payloads.
Botlab is earning national acclaim following their breathtaking World Cup debut. Armed with support from investors including I-Hub Foundation and Let’s Venture, this IIT Delhi startup is set to push the boundaries of what’s possible with synchronized drone systems.
